USPS Tracking

Changes to tracking on usps.com
New Quick Tools menu, including USPS Tracking entry field, on usps.com.

Tracking a package on usps.com is easier and more convenient with recent changes.

The tracking results page has been updated to help customers more quickly find where their package is, where it’s been and if it’s been delivered:

  • A progress bar shows how far along a package has moved toward its destination.
  • Delivery status is now highlighted.
  • Available actions such as additional services, email alerts and post-delivery actions are consolidated.
  • When the status of a package is “Delivered,” a summary of delivery information appears in the status area.

The Track and Confirm application has been renamed “USPS Tracking.” Tracking numbers now can be entered directly on the usps.com homepage using the Track button under Quick Tools, which also have been updated to include the most popular usps.com web pages.

Changes were based on customer feedback, usability testing, internal stakeholder input and a review of tracking applications used by other companies.

“With all the work being done to increase scanning rates and to let customers know we’ve improved tracking, we wanted to offer clearer visibility of package status on usps.com,” said Digital Marketing Manager Mary Beth Fluto.

Customers seeking tracking information constitute 55 percent of the 2.8 million visits usps.com receives each day.

Update to USPS Labeling Requirements for Acceptance of International Mailing of Packages Containing Lithium Batteries

Lithium batteries are considered by international authorities to be within the class of “dangerous goods.” Items meeting the size and quantity restrictions may be mailed internationally; however, the packaging of the battery must comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations to be mailable. Items must be packaged in accordance with Packing Instructions 967 (Lithium Ion or Rechargeable) or 970 (Lithium Metal or Non-rechargeable). Both Packing Instructions prohibit the use of the “Lithium Battery Handling” label or the “Class 9 Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods” label on the outside of the package for international mailing.

Business mailers presenting qualifying items in pre-printed packaging with the label on the outside of their shipment for acceptance must completely cover or obliterate the pre-printed label.

Retail Associates and Business Mail Acceptance Employees must recognize non-mailable packaging and refuse such shipments.
